Detailed Installation Steps: Prepare the Starter Shaft: Ensure the starter motor shaft is clean and free of any debris. Slide the Bendix: Carefully slide the Bendix drive unit onto the starter shaft, with the gear end going on first. Ensure it passes the Woodruff key slot. Install the Woodruff Key: Place the Woodruff key into its designated slot on the shaft. Secure the Bendix: Slide the Bendix drive back over the Woodruff key until it sits correctly. Compress the Spring: Use a special installation tool (such as part number A11350TOOL for Model A Fords) to compress the spring on the Bendix drive. Release the Set Screw: While the spring is compressed, locate the set screw and release it. Tighten the Set Screw: Once the set screw is released, tighten it securely to hold the Bendix drive in its position on the shaft.
